This chair was originally in the bedroom of Hill House at Helensburg (Dunbartonshire), the house designed for the publisher Walter W.Blackie.
The architecture of Mackintosh in Hill House with its “deletion of all naturalism and its use of the functional, mathematical plane” (Sypher) was a prelude to the Bauhaus.
